Died 10-08-2005
Age 18
Services are pending at a local funeral home for an 18-year-old Palestine High School student killed in a single-vehicle accident Saturday night on East Palestine Avenue.
Victoria Patterson, 18, of Palestine was killed shortly before 9:45 p.m. Saturday as a result of injuries sustained in an accident occurring near the intersection of North Conway Street and East Palestine Avenue, according to local police.
Police say Patterson was traveling eastbound in the 800 block of East Palestine Avenue in a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee when she traveled into oncoming traffic and then overcorrected causing her to lose control of the vehicle.
Patterson's vehicle traveled up an embankment and then struck a tree, ultimately landing on its roof on a rock wall, according to a Palestine police accident report.
The lone passenger in the vehicle - 22-year-old Ashia Kaind of Palestine - reported to police that Patterson had a seizure, causing her to initially travel into the lane of oncoming traffic, according to the report.
Patterson was not wearing a seat belt, the report indicated.
Kaind, who was wearing a seat belt according to police, sustained injuries of unknown nature and extent.
Palestine police officer James Lewis investigated the accident.
